The City of Long Beach possesses 17 original historic districts. Ranging in style, age and size, each district has it’s own character and amazing story. Willmore City/Drake Park is home to some of Long Beach’s oldest homes and was established as the first historic district in 1978. All other districts followed suit to allow residents and visitors alike to enjoy the beauty, history, architecture and culture created by the districts and their residents.
One of my favorite stories is of the design of Carroll Park. Constructed with streets laid out in a curving manner to, as the story goes, stop farmers from driving their loaded farm wagons through this residential neighborhood on their way to the market in downtown Long Beach.
Below is a list of the historic districts with a link to the stories about each. Enjoy!
